MEET OUR PASTOR

Rev. Dr. David J. Venable is a true servant of the Lord. A humble man whose leadership has championed resourcefulness and positioning for opportunities across various industries. As a native Washingtonian, and respected spiritual leader, Dr. Venable’s passion for his city and its people have unveiled the heart of someone who truly cares about both the natural and the spiritual. With a fearless focus toward education, he pursued and accomplished several notable academic accomplishments. He is a graduate of Ballou Senior High School in Ward 8. After Ballou, he achieved multiple degrees, including a B.S. in English and Education from Bowie State University, a Master’s in Theology from Cornerstone University in Orlando, FL, and a Doctorate in Theology from Newburgh Theological Seminary. His education has afforded him the privilege to excel early in his career in ministry and education. First, as a senior educator, having taught English at Ballou and Roosevelt Senior High Schools from 2001-2010. After being ordained as a Baptist minister in 2005, he began pastoring in 2008 and began full time ministry in 2010. He quickly became known around the DMV for his explosive-anointed ability to preach and deliver the Word of God in such a profound, challenging, and prophetic manner, and became one of the more sought-after ministers nationally. Having faithfully served in ministry under renowned men of God, he received his formal training under Rev. Anthony J. Motley, Bishop Glen A. Staples, and Dr. Calvin Cage Sr. With an empowering and impactful ministry, he was recognized in 2013 by Praise 104.1 as one of the Top 20 Pastors of the DMV. In 2015, he was led back to the classroom and now serves on faculty as an English professor at Bowie State University, Howard Community College, and Prince Georges County Community Colleg. He is now the proud Senior Pastor of the Resurrection Baptist Church in Southeast, Washington, DC, where they have recently celebrated 50 years.
